Nestled in the heart of Kyushu, Fukuoka prefecture, the city district of Yame covers approx 480km squared, making it the second largest district in Fukuoka prefecture. As of 2015, it has a population of approximately 60,000 people and despite its small size it is famous across Japan for its award winning green tea plantations.
Yame is a rural community, rich in tradition. A mix of open plains and mountainous valleys, the scenery never fails to impress no matter the time of year. Scenic vistas, blooming fields of flowers, age-old temples and historic monuments- you’ll find all this and more. From workshops hundreds of year old, festivals and pageants unique to Japan, unique local produce as well as its prized green tea, Yame has a whole lot to offer, and its people wholeheartedly want to share all this with the wider world.
